The below policy brief shows some statistics on how the California overdose rate has been skyrocketing these last few years. Fentanyl has played a large part in the rising rates of overdose deaths, as the age-adjusted rate of overdose deaths related to synthetic opioids such as fentanyl has risen 541% over the last 3 years. The age-adjusted rate of overdose deaths related to psychostimulants, such as methamphetamine has increased by 91% since 2017.
